Volleyball season is in full swing for the boy’s volleyball team. With a mix of returning and new players, their season has been very interesting.

There are eight first-year players on the team, so the three seniors this year, Jake Hancher, Trevor Filer and Will Crumrine, have taken leadership roles.

Hancher voices, “Our team is young this year, so stepping up is super important for the team this year.  We should still have a good season this year so I’m excited.”

Even though boy’s volleyball teams in the Washington area usually do not have a lot of players, the teams usually include athletes that are dedicated to this sport.  With playing teams like Upper St. Clair and Moon, it’s important for Trinity’s boys to have a competitive mindset as well. To prepare to face their competition, workouts began on January 17.

“The other teams in our division are always cutthroat, so it’s important to start practicing early so we can keep up with their skills and hopefully win some matches,” stated Sophomore Michael Dunn.

This urge to become a more competitive team starts at everyday practices.  Practices include mastering technique, depending on your position on the court.  Good technique and communication within the team is key to doing well in games and tournaments.

The Seneca Valley tournament is always a highlight of the team’s season.  They face all sorts of teams from the Pittsburgh area, private and public.  It’s always a time where their technique is truly tested.

Coach Myers expressed, “How we do will depend on the veteran players’ leadership and determination coupled with the growth of the new players. The goal is to continue to improve as a team as the season progresses.”

The team’s next game is April 17.  The boy’s season ends on May 7, so make sure to go out and show support for the team.
